This painting is part of a series that emulate the settling of storm Eunice in February during a week-long residency at Bedruthan Hotel overlooking Mawgan Porth beach.
Painting outside with giant canvases was proving a little difficult against the winds - but the room I was given to paint framed the left side of the beach looking south towards Newquay and beyond.
I became particularly infatuated with pudding rock (the largest of the rock formation on the beach) as it became submerged in the weather, tide and sunlight.
I remember feeling particularly apprehensive at the beginning of the week. I usually find this happens when starting something new.
Over days of working intensely within the environment, my paint strokes, mark-making and pace matched the rhythm of the conditions outside.
